Christmas Stories Page on Love2learn.net

We've been doing lots of updating to our Christmas Stories page, although it is still in progress. Please take a peek... http://www.love2learn.net/calendar/xmasstor.htm

Hope you're having a blessed Advent.

Another story you might add to your collection is "The Shop of Ghosts" by GKC. It was (I think) originally in Daily News and reprinted in Tremendous Trifles, but now available in CW14 (pages 82-86). There are other GKC essays scattered around; I'll see what else I can shake out.

There is also a book version of "The Miracle on 34th Street".

Another book which I particularly like called The Christmas Bower; I'll have to get the bibliographic ref for you.

Thanks! I did find Shop of Ghosts and will take a look at it. (Volume XIV is one of only three of the CW volumes I own - how fortunate - but then again "Short Stories, Fairy Tales and Mystery Stories" sounded like a particularly interesting volume).

Is the Christmas Bower by Polly Redford? If so, I found a reference on Amazon. I'll have to take a peek at our library.

I just read "The Shop of Ghosts" and then shared it with my family. How delightful! Thanks for introducing us.

Hey, I just discovered in the book that one of my sisters designed the cover of the Collected Works volumes! No kidding!

Alicia,

I can do the "Miracle on 34th Street" review -- we're doing it as our lunchtime read-aloud. The kids like it so much, I have to read 2 chapters each time (we used to limit it to 1 chapter each lunchtime!).

Thanks Mary. That would be terrific!

"She" also did all the cover and text design for the original edition of the Faith and Life series, but didn't do any of those paintings either ;) .

Very nice. :) The kids were particularly amused and amazed.

Yes, The Christmas Bower IS by Polly Redford. I am reading it again now.

Some other movies that came to mind:

"Come to the Stable" (not all about Christmas, but distinctly Catholic!)

"The Bishop's Wife" (though the bishop is married, there are some good parts, and some are very Chestertonian.)

"The Bells of St. Mary's" (great Christmas scene!)

Now I have to go and look at our collection again. More later.
