Miss Rumphius

St. Nicholas Day always reminds me of one of my favorite books although it doesn't have much direct relation to Christmas or St. Nicholas. The story is Miss Rumphius by Barbara Cooney. It's a simple story, lovingly illustrated by the author, about a young girl relating the life story of her great aunt who decided that one day she would do something "to make the world more beautiful."
