Catholic Liberal Education Retreat

Many parents who get into home schooling find a strong emphasis on a classical, Catholic liberal education. Not having had one themselves, they find it hard to implement one for their own children, especially high school. Books like Laura Berquist's Designing Your Own Classical Curriculum help, but nothing beats participating in a truly liberal education.

To that end I'd like to suggest the Academic Retreat for Teachers (July 12-17, Fr. Wayne, Indiana) put on the the Institute for Catholic Liberal Education, whose president is Dr. Andrew Seeley, of Thomas Aquinas College. I have been on this retreat (as a presenter), and I can tell you, the participants are immerced in a genuine culture of Catholic liberal education, with an emphasis on the trivium and quadrivium, literature and religion. You can't help but "get it" after this experience. The cost is reasonable, $450, considering what you get out of it. Of course, the closer you live to Indiana, the more convenient the travel is. The campus of St. Francis is very warm and refreshing and the building in which much of the retreat is held is an old, beautifully appointed, stately Victorian mansion.
