1906 San Francisco Earthquake

The 100th Anniversary is next week - April 18th. I'll blog more on this closer to that date, but here's a great online exhibit to get you started:

Alicia,

I'll look forward to reading the posts. I grew up in the City and read tons of great mysteries and books ont he Earthquake -- it always seemed like such a "romantic" event.

My grandpa was able to "lie" about his age for years becuase his birth certificate burned in the fire after the quake.

Thanks for reminding me about this -- maybe I'll put together a unit for the kids....

Neat! Both my grandmother were around there at the time. My Dad's Mom was 3 years old living in the Bayview/Hunter's Point area. My other grandma was born two months later just south of the city.

This month's National Geographic Magazine shows an amazing computer picture from the Scripps Oceanography Institute Visualizaton Center of the San Franciso Earthquake in a cover article entitled "The Next Big One". See www9.nationalgeographic.com/ngm/0604/feature6/index.html

Go to www.sciencenewsforkids.org and click on the article on the San Francisco earthquake. Nicely done and very interesting.
